Dennis Sheehan Dynamic Portraits

A few more portraits by Dennis Sheehan for you to enjoy and study. Dark areas are used to create the drama of the portrait and direct the viewers eye to the face. Hope you enjoy seeing these.

The dark figure is enhanced by a light background
The light face is enhanced by the surrounding dark area.

As an artist it is important to experiment with different ideas. Above is an example of Dennis Sheehan painting two portrait paintings in different styles and each with a special feeling and drama. Notice the white areas carefully placed beneath the woman's face and the one to the lower right of the man's face. These white areas complete the framing of the face.

Have you decided which appeals to you more?
